City to Add 80 Heavy Equipements This Year

Jakarta Water Resources Dept. has allocated Rp 201.5 billion for buying 80 heavy equipment this year. These equipment will be used to normalize the rivers and dredge the channels.

Our heavy equipment is still inadequate

Teguh Hendarwan, Head of Jakarta Water Resources Dept. said heavy equipment purchase will be done through e-catalog in the goods and service procurement agency (LKPP).

"Our heavy equipment is still inadequate. Because Jakarta has 13 rivers, 108 dams and so on. Therefore, we want to add more equipment," he stated, at City Hall, Friday (2/17).

Additionally, his side is no longer cooperating with third party in term of heavy equipment purchase. Thus they dredge the river and channel independently.

"According to leader's mandate, we just want to be independent, either it is about heavy equipment or operator. We only pay the solar," he expressed.

Teguh also admitted has recruited freelancer (PHL) as operator to operate such equipment later.

Several equipment that will be bought are long excavator, mobile pump, long amphibious excavator and dump truck. Its presence is hoped could optimize handling of flood and inundation.

Currently, his dept. already has 280 dump trucks with a capacity of 5-23 cubic and 149 heavy equipment type backhoe, long arm, jetting, excavator and amphibious.
